For people with a need to buy food on the way to Burning Man - either because they flew in or they forgot to stop by Trader Joe's, here are some stores along the way to Black Rock from San Francisco.
Not too far off Route 445 if you take this alternate route to the playa, Sutcliff has a small fishing village with supplies. The store at Crosby Lodge is open Mon-Thurs 7:00 am - 8:00 pm, Fri 7:00 am - 9:00 pm, Sat 6:30 am - 9:00 pm, and Sun 6:30am - 8:00 pm. The best thing is this webcam of the lake, though. Crosby Lodge.
If you didn't remember the Combat Juice till you got to Roseville, you're in luck! Trader Joe's has a store close to I-80, just past Placer County mile marker 1.6. Take the Douglas Blvd. exit, go west, and look for Roseville Square on the right at Harding Blvd. The store is behind Ross and next to Old Navy. 916-784-9084
Claims to be open 9 am to 9 pm.
Home of the battery powered Christmas lights, this institution is always part of my Burning Man shopping. If you've left home without the lights, there is a store along the way in Roseville: 212 Harding Blvd # G (916) 782-4897. Take the Douglas Blvd. West exit off Route 80 (this is just east of the Citrus Heights city limit). Right onto Harding Blvd. and you're there!
Ikeda's is reknown for it's fruit market, burgers, and fresh pies. It's close to Rt. 80 at 13500 Lincoln Way (530) 885-4243 Open 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. daily except Friday, when they are open until 10:00 pm.m. From Rt. 80, take Exit 122 toward Bowman, turn right at Undercrossing Rd, and right onto Lincoln Way. It's about 0.2 miles down the road. Bring some pie to the playa for us!
Scolari's Warehouse Market 1360 Highway 40 E, Fernley, NV 89408 (7-10 pound blocks for 99 cents a pound in 2000) 575-1381 (It is easy to find off the I-80 Fernley exit, right next to the highway by the first overpass entering Fernley from the south, next to a Mac Donald's.)
Gordon's Photo Service - If you need something more than the developing machine at Longs, try Gordon's Photo Service. They provide amateur and professional supplies with same day film processing. 1227 S. Carson St. (aka Route 395) 883-3077.
Argyre says,
Phil and I have become fans of Fernley after reading Argyre's advice. It's a few miles out of the way for those approaching from the west, but it is quick and easy to get to and not overrun with people. Take Exit 48 - you will also see 3 gas stations, a Super 8 motel (part of the Truck Inn truck stop) and a Best Western.

This is not the official Burning Man site. That Web site is located at Burning Man.
